My Reiki Journey
While I’d heard of Reiki before, it wasn’t until my pregnancy that I thought about using it to help me. I had a major fear of childbirth and was looking for a way to restore the calm balance to my mind and body in the month leading up to Andrea’s due date.
I’m a firm believer in trying out holistic treatments for myself rather than just listening to the experiences of others. Along with Hypo-birthing (Pauline Taylor), Reiki was extremely beneficial for me, helping me feel a lot calmer and more positive about giving birth.
As the saying goes, “the proof of the pudding is in the eating”, and having gained such wonderful results from Reiki myself, the obvious next step was to train to a level where I could offer it to my clients.
I’m really looking forward to sharing this wonderful therapy with as many of you as possible.

An Introduction to Reiki
As the owner of a beauty salon in Edinburgh offering treatments such as hot stone massage and facials, I was always aware of Reiki and its reported benefits.
If you’ve never heard of Reiki before or had a treatment, it’s a calming non-invasive therapy designed to restore your inner peace and harmony from within.
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.*

How does Reiki work?
Reiki gently starts your body’s own natural self-healing process by working on your physical, emotional and spiritual levels.
Reiki is a holistic therapy which originates from Japan and is a non-manipulative, gentle, hands-on treatment which is simple, natural and safe. It treats the whole person and is suitable for everyone.
Reiki is not designed to be a magic cure for illness or injury, but as mentioned above, it can help the ‘life force energy’ within your body and mind.
As it’s such a relaxing treatment, Reiki has been shown to help people suffering with anxiety & stress as well as many other conditions.
What to expect at a Reiki treatment
When you visit my salon for a Reiki experience, you’ll find it an intensely relaxing experience from start to finish.
You’ll lie on my treatment couch fully clothed and be wrapped in a cosy blanket before I begin. I’ll then place my hands, non-intrusively, in a sequence of pre-determined positions around your body.
You won’t experience any pain or firm pressure, just effortless relaxation and perhaps some comforting heat. These feelings combine to help soothe your body and have a deeply restorative effect.
