Why Technology Isn’t Good For You

I was standing at Waverley Station recently waiting on my train to Dunbar for a family day out. My train was running a bit late so I was just looking around. Then suddenly it struck me how many of my fellow passengers were glued to their mobile phones. I think I only counted a handful of people other than me, out of hundreds that were doing something else.
As I looked along the platform all I could see were bowed heads and frantic thumbs! From a posture point of view it really made me think about how technology is affecting our bodies.
Here are just some examples you may be able to identify with:

  • Being hunched over your phone on your daily commute
  • Being stuck in front of a computer at work all day without regular breaks
  • Sitting with a laptop on your knee while you’re on the sofa at home

None of these things is conducive to good posture and they all can cause the following issues:

  • Stiff neck
  • Sore upper/lower back
  • Aching shoulders
  • Tight hamstrings
  • Solid calf muscles

These kind of things may just start out as little niggles but as the weeks and months go by, they can lead to knots of tension that are not only painful, but can play havoc with the natural flow of energy throughout your body.

Once you can into the habit of having poor posture, it’s not easy to correct it. Technology is a great thing but if we’re not careful we’ll all regress back into cavemen or women, stooped over at 90 degrees!

A relaxing massage can really help to break up this kind of tension and get your body back on an even keel. I’m not expecting you to give up on using technology, but if you are finding your posture is giving you aches and pains, it’s best not to ignore these as they’ll only get worse without treatment.

Take time to be mindful

It’s not just your body that doesn’t like the way you’re using technology; it’s not great for your mind either.

The following things can be symptoms of your mind always being ‘on’ and never having a chance to sit and relax for a while:

  • Forgetfulness
  • Irritability
  • Feeling stressed
  • Mental fatigue

Your mind and body work together as one. When you’ve finished your Aspen treatment, you will feel completely refreshed and raring to go again.

Take a look at our range of massage treatments and pick out one you’d like.

Don’t let technology takes its toll. Treat yourself to some time away from the hectic, technology-led world we live in.
