Massage Treatment FAQs

One of the things I’ve found as my time as a massage therapist is that people are often a bit unsure of what to expect at their first treatment.

With this in mind, I’ve put together some massage treatment FAQs and my answers below.

How do I know which type of massage is right for me?

If you don’t know exactly which massage is right for you, I can have a chat with you when you call to book an appointment and then tailor a treatment accordingly.

The type of massage is usually dictated by what you’re looking to get out of it. For example, some people just want a very light and hugely relaxing massage while others with a lot of tension in their shoulders may need a more therapeutic one.

What different types of massage treatment are there?

I have a list of massage treatments and also wrote a blog post explaining more about them called “Massage for Beginners”.

The main massage types I provide are hot lava shell, hot stone, aromatherapy, Swedish and LUX candle.

Will my massage treatment hurt?

My role as a massage therapist isn’t to hurt people. I will always check with you before and during the massage about how much pressure you can tolerate comfortably.

If you have a lot of knots and tension in your shoulders for example a very firm pressure may be necessary, but this will be made clear to you and you can tell me exactly how much pressure you can tolerate without it being uncomfortable or painful.

Is it medically safe for me to have a massage?

Before your first massage you’ll be asked to fill in a short medical questionnaire. It’s also important to let me know if you have any underlying health issues that aren’t covered.

In some cases it may not be medically safe for you to have a massage, so if you’re unsure, it’s best to ask me when you call to book your appointment.

How much privacy will I have?

After completing your short medical questionnaire and having a brief chat, you’ll be left alone in the treatment room to get ready for your massage. You can then undress to your underwear and lie on the massage table underneath the warm towels provided.

After your treatment I will leave the room so you can get dressed again in complete privacy and in your own time.

Is there anything I should avoid after a massage treatment?

A massage treatment can release lots of toxins from your body and it’s advisable to avoid any strenuous exercise and alcohol for around 24 hours afterwards. It’s also a good idea not to drive for any long distances as you will probably feel a bit tired and very relaxed after your treatment at Aspen.

Because of all the toxins, you should drink lots of water after your massage in order to prevent a headache.

These are just some massage treatment FAQs. If you have anything else you’d like to ask, please get in touch and I’ll be happy to help.
